Christmas `08

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Charles Dickens

Probably the reason we all go so haywire at Christmas time with the endless unrestrained and often silly buying of gifts is that we don't quite know how to put our love into words.

The only blind person at Christmas time is he who has not Christmas in his heart.

Star

©2006-2008 ~hkhardkore

Matthew 2:8-10

8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."

9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east[a] went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

Romans 13:8-14
Love Your Neighbor

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,”[a] “You shall not covet,”[b] and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”[c] 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Put on Christ

11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Footnotes:

  1. Romans 13:9 NU-Text omits "You shall not bear false witness."
  2. Romans 13:9 Exodus 20:13–15, 17; Deuteronomy 5:17–19, 21

And every week there is a new passage to read from, to ponder upon, to meditate, to pray about;
This week's passage is taken from the books of Matthew:

Matthew 6:25-27 (New International Version)

Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?

Footnotes:

  1. Matthew 6:27 Or single cubit to his height

From this week onwards we will be doing devotion for every week. This devotion is for you to read, to meditate on it, and to write down any thoughts, verse that comes to your mind. Pen it down and we hope you could share with your group as we are going to put everyone into groups and there will be a leader in each group. Please do not be afraid to share because there is no right or wrong about your opinion.

The reason that we're doing this devotion is firstly, we want to learn how to be discipline in our quiet time. We also want to learn how to sit at His feet and to listen to Him speak, and to have an enjoyable time with the Holy Spirit.

You might find a portion of the passage that encouraged you and you might want to pause there. Its ok, you don't have to summarize the whole passage.

For this weeks devotion is from ACTS 13

All are welcomed to join us , so grab your youth groups, church members and friends to come join us as well.

See you there and God Bless! =)

October's Higher Ground Session

For this month's session, there will be something rather different in store... . . . . . .

Instead of the ordinary and usual speaker-style (which is not wrong in any way), we've a fun-filled crowd-involving activity which would get you off your comforts, lifting those heavy bums from magnetizing you to the ground; for now it remains enigmatic, but it will be cinematic and dramatic for your preview. It won't just be any plain activity just to fill the time up, it would also be informative (learning from a different perspective or should I say it - point of view)

. . . . . ....and upfront, we've Michel.O (GCC) worship leading and simultaneously on the keys as well, backed by A-ron.P (GCC) who would also be gracing the acoustics alongside Jordan.C (Maranatha) lending a harmonious hand. Mike.O (GCC) will be lifting his bass up a notch with Paul (GCC) aiding in the percussion field with the drums.

RM25

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'

DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.

SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.

SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'If you must know, I make RM50 an hour.'

SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow RM25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that RM25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.

'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the RM25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have RM50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that RM50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

HUGE08

One day you might be away from your family, friends, church and youth pastor, pursuing an education or a career without your usual Christian ‘guardian’.

You are suddenly thrust into a different world - a world of ungodliness and deceit.
But what keeps you spiritually strong is the condition of your HEART!

What really matter amidst the onslaught of the devil is not how loud you sing, how high you jump or even how well you memorize Scriptures but whether deep down in your heart, was there a change?

Is there a heart for God and the things of God?

Heart surgery anyone?

Home Sweet Home

The Parable of the Lost Son

11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.
17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring[a] out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
25 “Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’
28 “But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’
31 “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.
