A New Year By Jerry Ousley

A New Year
By Jerry Ousley

After three hundred and sixty-five days (three hundred and sixty-six during a leap year), we mark the beginning of another year. It celebrates the completion of the Earth's orbit around the sun. We have made another revolution. I suppose that's something to celebrate considering that we have ridden this ball of rock and dirt all the way around a burning inferno a ball of flaming gas, without becoming toast.

We don't think about it very often; we really take it for granted from day to day, how that God has so perfectly kept us safe on this small planet, suspended in outer space. We go to our jobs, do our tasks and have fun on the weekends. Some turn to church on Sunday morning and spend a little time thinking of God, but then many can't wait until the final "amen" has been said so that they can race to their favorite restaurant for Sunday dinner.

We don't think about the life that God has placed on our rock in space, the third out from our sun. So many life forms exist! Scientists are yet discovering new species nearly every day. I read not long ago that a frog with fangs was found somewhere in the South Eastern region of Asia. We'd never think of getting bitten by a frog would we? All these centuries on this planet and we are still finding new life forms that God created during that very first week after forming this planet. That's amazing to me.

Most of us don't give much thought to all the stars suns themselves many of them, having their own system of planets slowly making their circle around them. What it must be like out there!

We don't think about the violence that goes on underneath our feet as rock shelves shift and move unless their activity reaches the surface of the earth and we experience an earthquake. The weather is most often a nuisance to us unless it unleashes wild tornados, hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons. The vastness of the ocean isn't given much place in our thoughts until an underwater eruption or earthquake occurs and a giant tsunami rushes somewhere to shore bringing devastation and death.

All these things outer space, life, the weather, and the movement of galaxies and solar systems, take a backseat in our thoughts unless one of them directly affects us. To dwell on them and their dangers for very long can be depressing and scary.

But this New Year I would like to present you with another thought. It isn't a new idea or a profound recent discovery. In fact it is as old as time. It is that in the midst of the vastness of all these things God has control of them all. The wildness of nature, the uncontrollable destruction by storms and the violence of the earth all happens because we mankind, introduced sin in the midst of all the cosmos. Some call these things "Acts of God" but in reality they are the results of the "acts of man."

Still, we can come to a place of peace in the midst of it all because of the very God we have sinned against. This great God who has created all these things the planets hurtling through outer space, the strange and wonderful life-forms found on this egg-shaped ball we call Earth and the forces of nature we so fear; He has made them and though uncontrollable by humanity, He holds them in His hands. The fact is that He loves us each and every one of us. He wants nothing more than for us to come to Him; to tell Him we are sorry for our sin in honest sincere repentance. When we do He will take a break from all the schedules of the planets and take a moment to touch us with a forgiving hand.

It has always amazed me how that all these forces were put second place by God. He put us first you know. Even though we are but a tiny spec on a tiny spec in outer space, all the suns, stars, and planets were dismissed during creation by one statement. Genesis 1:16 simply says, "And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also." Did you hear that? Speaking of the sun and the moon, when it came to the vastness of space it simply and in so many words says, "Oh, and He made the stars too." Why does He not emphasis this vastness more? It's because you and I were more important to Him. He loves you. This year, come to Him. You'll discover the best year you have ever had.

The Wonderful Christmas By Irvin Rozier

The Wonderful Christmas
By Irvin Rozier

Genesis 33:5: “And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the woman and children, and said, who are those with thee? And he said, the children which God has graciously given thy servant.”

Children are a gift from God. He had blessed me to have two wonderful daughters and a good son. When their mother left in 1986 I became a single parent to six, eight, and eleven year old children. My heart grieved for them as they missed their mother. After the Lord saved me, I began to pray for them. One of my prayers that December 1989 was that they would be blessed to have a wonderful Christmas, including spending some precious time with their mother. Shortly thereafter, my children’s mother called and asked if she could have the children a few days. She would get them about four or five days before Christmas and bring them back Christmas day. I readily agreed. She asked if I would drive them halfway. She lived in Atlanta so Dublin was the agreed meeting point.

The children were all excited about this rare visit with their mother. They had not spent much time with her since our separation. I scraped together a few dollars to give to them to spend, we loaded up and headed out.

Well, you should of seen the look of happiness on their faces as they hugged and greeted their mom. She had been such a wonderful mom to our children before. She always made sure they were well fed, clothed, clean, and hugged and loved. She roller-skated with them, read to them..they were her life. Tragically, the Devil can destroy and take away a mother’s concern and love for her children–whether it’s drugs or other methods.

As they drove away, I sat in the car and cried. My tears were a mixture of joy for their happiness of being with their mom and sadness and grief for the losses they had experienced. I loved these children that God had given me and when they hurt, I did too.

What I didn’t tell the children was that I had given them all the money I had. My car’s gas needle showed empty and it was 110 miles back home.

It was Sunday morning about 10:30 a.m. as I began to drive back home. I said, “Lord, I guess I’ll run out of gas within a few miles but I’m trusting you in this situation.” About three miles down the road, I saw a small sign displaying an arrow pointing left to a small country church. The Lord suddenly spoke to me and said, “Go to that church.” I said, “Okay, but I’m not dressed very well (I had on old blue jeans, a tee-shirt and tennis shoes).” The Lord replied, “Go just like you are and don’t even concern yourself about what others may think about your clothing. I know what is in your heart.”

I drove up to that church, got out of my beat up old Toyota and went inside. Services had already started and several heads turned to stare as a badly dressed stranger entered. I sat down on a seat and after a few songs, the preacher preached on the famous faith chapter in the Bible, Hebrews, Chapter 11.

The Lord anointed this pastor as he preached. It seemed as if most of the words he spoke were directed at me. I needed that encouragement at that particular moment! Thank you Jesus! After service, the preacher was led to ask for testimonies. A few dear saints stood up and testified. Their testimonies were very uplifting.

Suddenly the Lord spoke and said, “Irvin, get up and testify.” As I stood, I wiped some of the wrinkles from my blue jeans and began to speak. As the Spirit of the Lord anointed me, every eye in the congregation was on me and every ear was attentive. I told how the Lord has directed my footsteps to that church, how the sermon and testimonies had encouraged me, and how happy I was that my children would be spending a few days with their mom. I asked for prayer. At this request, the Godly pastor asked his little flock to gather around the altar and especially pray that not only my children but other children from broken homes would have a happy Christmas.

After the service, I slowly walked to my Toyota. An elderly woman came up to me, shook my hand, and told me my testimony had touched her heart in a special way. After I withdrew my hand, I looked in my palm and saw the folded five dollar bill she had given me. Gas money to get home! God will provide!

When I got home that Sunday evening, a friend of mine called and asked if I would drive him to a city about 50 miles away. His truck had quit and it was too cold to drive his motorcycle. I said, “Okay, I’ve got to pick up a few pecans to sell to get a few dollars. My children aren’t here so I’m free to go.” He was a nurse and was going to work two 16 hour shifts during Christmas. He said he was renting a hotel room and I could stay there while he was working.

It snowed hard the night before we left. Not only had it snowed, the temperature had dropped and black ice had formed on the roads. As I slowly drove that old Pontiac down those icy roads, we saw many vehicles in the ditch. People in South Georgia are not equipped to drive in these conditions. As I pulled up to an intersection, I applied my brakes to stop. I hit a patch of black ice and said to my unsaved friend, “Brace yourself, we are going to crash.” Sure enough, we did, but the Lord protected us both, only a small dent in the car. We were stuck in the ditch so we went looking for a kind-hearted farmer to pull us out.

Shortly we found one. We asked for help. He pulled on his brogans, walked to the shelter, cranked up his John Deere, and quickly pulled us out. We tried to pay him, but he refused. Thank God for people like this kind farmer.

We arrived safely at the hotel, checked in, then went and got a bite to eat. This was two days before Christmas. I then drove my friend to the nursing home and went back to the hotel and went to sleep.

I woke up early Christmas eve and said, “Lord, I sure would like to go to church this morning. Show me where to go.” I picked up the paper and saw where a church was having an early morning service.

The Lord spoke and said, “Go there.” So I went, and although only about 30 people were there, it was a sweet service. I was blessed by the words spoken about our Savior’s birth. After this was over I said, “Lord, I sure would like to go to Sunday school. Please show me where to go.” Well, the Lord led me on a road out of town and in the country. It surely was beautiful scenery: gently rolling, snowed covered hills, the whiteness and brightness of everything. As I was driving, I thought about Christmas coming up. My friend was going to pay me $50 for driving him. Not much to buy Christmas for my children. While I was thinking about things, the Lord interrupted my thoughts with a command, “Turn left here on this dirt road.” I did and about two miles down that road, I came up to a beautiful little country church sitting on a little hill surrounded by snow covered pine trees. The Lord said, “Here is where I want you to go for Sunday School.”

The parking lot was full of cars, and I felt a warm and peaceful presence about this little place. As I walked in, I was warmly greeted and directed to the right Sunday School class. The people there were friendly and warm-hearted. They made me welcome, and they were genuine, not fake like some places I’ve been. I thought to myself, this is a praying church that God loves.

I didn’t stay for church services because the Lord directed me to go on back to the hotel. I did as He directed. After I had eaten dinner, I went back to the room and laid down to take a nap. Around 2:30 p.m. , the Lord awoke me and said, “Go on over to the nursing home.” I obeyed.

I found my friend and talked with him a few minutes. While we were talking, I heard the sound of singing. I told my friend I was going on down there to listen as they were not only singing Christmas carols, but also singing old hymns.

As I entered the area where the service was being held, I recognized many of the folks conducting the service. They were the ones I had Sunday school with that morning. Nothing was mentioned in the Sunday school class about a nursing home service. They recognized me and invited me to join them. I did as I enjoyed the presence of the Lord.

After the service, I said my goodbyes and walked down the hall to the nurse’s station. In a few minutes, the preacher came up and said, “The Lord told me to give you this check.” It was for $150. I had only asked the Lord for some money so I could buy my children something for Christmas. He tested my faith by ordering my steps. I passed; thank God!

We came back home, and my friend paid me. My children came home late Christmas day. I was so glad to see them! I had missed them so. I told them I didn’t have them much for Christmas, but we were together. Thank you Lord for this wonderful Christmas memory!

2009 National Day of Prayer By Dana Chaffin

2009 National Day of Prayer
By Dana Chaffin

The 58th annual National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday May 7, 2009. "Prayer America's Hope" is the theme taken from Psalm 33:22.

"May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you."

This day is for all Americans to unite in prayer for guidance, protection, and strength for the seven centers of power: government, military, media, business, education, church, and family. The 7 centers of power cover every citizen.

Government - As America faces an economic collapse, pray that the leaders of government would seek God for the answers they need to get the economy going in a positive direction. Pray that God would install in office men & women who are committed to serving with integrity. Pray also for the judicial system to be righteous in their decisions & to search out the truth in every case. Pray that our leaders have the devotion, principles, & wisdom of our Founding Fathers. These men made their values evident in many documents from their time like the U.S. Constitution & the Declaration of Independence.

Military - Pray for troops, their protection, their families, & for comfort to families that have lost loved ones. Pray also for their safe return home. Ask God to place honorable people in their path to deliver hope & spiritual strength.

Media - Pray for TV, newspapers, radio, musicians, actors, & athletes. They are a powerful influence, especially on America's youngsters. Pray that they realize the impact they have on not only teenagers, but also young children & adults. That they may understand that self image is worth lots more than selling the latest product. They should present their stories, broadcasts, & lives with truth and integrity.

Business - Pray for companies to conduct business in an honorable manner, employees to be loyal, & trustworthy CEOs. With the tough economic times, pray for those who are facing layoffs, pay cuts, & company closings. Pray also that God lifts up Christian workers as His ambassadors in the workplace.

Education - Pray for teachers, administrators, & students. Teachers rise up to be positive role models for their students & co workers. School administrators need to make moral decisions about curriculums. Pray that all involved will see that schools are safe, educate, and build kids up. Christian students will find His favor in influencing their fellow students that may be hurting or lost.

Church - Pray for the body of Christian believers, pastors and other Christian leaders to be obedient to Christ and withstand pressures of the world. Pray that the body of Christ, Christian leaders, Missionaries, & their families find favor when sharing the love of God. That God's people unite in boldness to spread God's Word. Also, pray for revival throughout our nation.

Family - Pray that families come together in love for each other & for Christ. The relationships in the home should be positive, disciplined, & God-centered. Parents should be leaders in the home & set good examples. Pray that fathers stand up to be spiritual leaders of their home.

Congress has been calling the public to pray since 1775, when it asked citizens to pray for wisdom in forming a nation. President Lincoln and President Truman were recognized for calling citizens to unite in prayer. In 1988, President Reagan permanently declared the 1st Thursday in May as National Day of Prayer.

Public events for National Day of Prayer are scheduled in most cities across the U.S. To find an event in your area check out http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org or contact National Day of Prayer Task Force in Colorado (719)531-3379. If you are unable to attend a NDP event, plan a personal event with co-workers, loved ones, or by yourself.

A CHRISTMAS STORY By Richard L. Provencher

A CHRISTMAS STORY
By Richard L. Provencher

"I am sad today," said Caw-Caw, a young crow.

"Christmas is almost here and I have no gifts to give. Besides, who wants a noisy crow around? All I'm good for is making strange noises."

"That's not true," answered Bushy-Red, his squirrel friend.

"Get away pest, is what I hear when I'm around other birds, with pretty colors," moaned Caw-Caw. "And their voices sing like the joy of sunrise."

Bushy-Red waggled his tail. "I understand. You're feeling poorly," he said.

"No you don't!" shouted Caw-Caw. "Look at me, a feathery nothing, only able to make weird sounds. If only" Caw-Caw whispered.

"If only, what?" Bushy-Red asked. They were resting alongside a trail in the woods.

It was so peaceful with snow covering fir trees. If only Caw-Caw stopped complaining, thought squirrel. Then he could notice beauty around them.

If only I wasn't such a chubby bird dressed in black, thought the crow. How nice it would be to say something besides, Caw-Caw." all the time."

"But you're such a kind bird," said the squirrel. "And your nest is the neatest one around. You even chase away pests from the farmer's fields."

"That's really nothing," said the crow, flicking his wing.

"Well it's more than nothing to the farmers," said Busy-Red scampering up a large maple tree. "Come on up."

'Oh, all right" said the crow. He flapped quickly and joined his friend on the upper branch.

"Now relax," said the squirrel to his sad friend. Then he opened his furry mouth and began to sing:

"Oh my friend, you're in such misery.

And you're just a black feathery bird

with little to say, except, CAW-CAW."

"Christmas can be such a lonely time. It should be filled with lots of happy sounds," said the crow. "If only I could help someone be happy, even with a voice like mine."

Busy-Red wasn't listening, and he kept on singing:

"Oh the sad crow moaned and groaned,

little else could he do. Good thing he did

not have to carry around heavy shoes, too."

While two friends thought about Christmas to come, others far away were busy making plans.

In Belgium, little mice prepared stockings filled with treats. There was cheese and special sweet bread, called "cougnolle."

"Maybe my voice needs practice," said the crow. "Instead of being shooed away, someone may like me."

But, his friend Bushy-Red, the squirrel, wasn't listening

to him. He was too busy singing:

"Oh the crow is a friend, indeed. Please

help him not dread the sound of his voice.

We all know, it's the only one he has, you see."

Then Bushy-Red looked at his friend, and said, "In Brazil, chicken with rice is the usual Christmas treat." (And that far away, as special music came, turkeys began to dance).

"In France a Christmas tree is decorated with red ribbons and white candles," said Bush-Red." (And far away, deer and other creatures chased moonbeams in the twilight).

"In Germany," said Bushy-Red, "one little piggy is picked to ring the family bell. It's a signal to open their gifts." (And far, far away, many squeals of happiness are expected).

"How can it be you are so wise?" asked the crow. He

leaned from the branch trying to see if a wise owl was

whispering these facts and ideas into his friend's ear.

But, Bushy-Red wasn't listening and began to sing:

"Over here, Christmas is a time for turkey treats

and trimmings. Polish sausage and Lasagna too.

So be good or else Santa will zoom on through."

"I get it," said the crow. "Christmas is really a happy

time. And we should learn to share it too."

"That's the spirit," said Bushy-Red. "He sang once again:

"Tick-Tock. Tick-Tick-Tock. I surely know

Christmas is almost here, in a few moments

we will share, and be happy and yell for joy."

Crow stretched to his full feathery size. He looked

left, then right, lifted his chin, and let out a loud cry.

Instead of "Caw-Caw," Crow heard a beautiful sound, coming from deep within. Words hurried through his beak and began with:

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

-The End-

Crocodile Tears & Buffalo Wings

Crocodile Tears & Buffalo Wings
By Marilyn Schnepp

Have you ever heard

A sparrow complain

That robins sport red vests

While his suit's mundane?

And surely the burro

Has legitimate gripes:

When he says he "feels drab

Next to a zebra with stripes."

And what about the camel

With his crooked spine;

Surely you've heard him

Whimper and whine?

Have you heard the buffalo...

Moan and cry

As he begs God for wings

So he can fly?

Or the beaver wishing

For a bushy tail,

While the bushy-tailed fox

Wants a house like a snail?

No, my friend,

Nature's quite content;

It's only Human Beings

Who weep and lament.

We alter our hair color,

Tan or whiten our skin,

Then starve ourselves silly

Just to be pencil thin.

We pierce our navals,

Lips, tongues and eyes;

Plus dye, paint and tuck

Our hair, nails and thighs.

In fact, Man's so disgruntled

With "WHO" he is,

That God only knows

Which is a Mister or Miz.

Now, you and I know

We were formed out of sod;

And magnificently designed

In the very image of God.

So think for a moment...

How we must break God's heart

Every time that we alter

His best Work of Art.

OVERCOMING SEXUALLY ORIENTED SIN

OVERCOMING SEXUALLY ORIENTED SIN
By Anthony Osei Boateng

INTRODUCTION

Sexually oriented sins entail a special collection of sins which thrive on the sexual drive of the Christian. These sins are special because they thrive on the sexual passion (which is very strong and can get out of control), which God has placed in man to be shared in marriage. Most Christians find it very difficult to overcome sexually oriented sins. These include fornication, adultery, pornography, masturbation and other sexual perversions.

HOW TO OVERCOME THEM

Sexually oriented sins come about when one's inherent sexual passion upon being triggered at the wrong time and for a wrong purpose goes ahead to commit the sexual sin. We can't ask God to take the passion away because He placed it in us for us to share it with our spouse. The devil however tries to trigger this passion God has given us at the wrong time and for a sinful purpose. Due to the strength of this passion and the fact that it is in us, the Bible admonishes us to "flee fornication" (1Cor. 6:18). Hence the more time you spend pondering whether or not to do it the stronger the passion becomes, increasing the possibility for one to fall into the sexually oriented sin.

The only way to avoid sexually oriented sin is to flee. Fleeing entails an accelerated creation of a gap between the Christian and the opportunity to commit the sexual sin or the avoidance of situations that would cause a Christian to commit a sexually oriented sin. The battlefield for overcoming sexually oriented sin is the mind. The Bible says that "be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2). For example, one can physically ignore an initial temptation to fornicate with a man or woman, but a continual thought of the features of the man or woman or imagining a sexual encounter with the person, may cause the person to eventually fornicate with the man or woman he or she initially ignored. Hence it is important to have a pure mind always. One's mind can make him or her fall easily into sexual sin when it is saturated with a lot of pornographic material.

Another powerful tool in overcoming sexually oriented sin is the Word of God (Bible). The devil can easily make a temptation to commit a sexually oriented sin look so unsinful. I wasn't surprised at all when a lady Sunday school teacher asked me if it was a sin for her to have sex with someone she wasn't married to. One wouldn't think twice about such sexually oriented sins if he or she is firmly grounded in the Word of God. Remember that when the devil tempted Jesus, he tried to make those sinful acts look so unsinful by quoting the Bible; hence we should be firmly grounded in the Bible, as Christians.

Finally a useful tool in overcoming sexually oriented sin is prayer. God can cut down one's temptations to fall into sexually oriented sins if he or she asks. The Bible says "and lead us not into temptation" (Mat. 6:13). The Bible also admonishes us to ask, and it shall be given unto us (Mat. 7:7). Hence if we ask God for the strength to overcome sexually oriented sins especially, when confronted with such a situation, God will be faithful, and He'll grant us the strength to overcome it. I can testify to this so many times. MAY GOD GIVE YOU THE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME SEXUALLY ORIENTED SINS AMEN.

Advice from SOC's; Teen Advice Column (Friends)

Advice from SOC's; Teen Advice Column (Friends)
By Nancy Quinn

Dear SOC's: Since I'm a Christian, should I only hang out with Christian friends?

SOC's: It is important to surround yourself with people who follow Jesus and live their faith for Him since hanging out with other Christians helps your own faith to keep growing. Your church and youth group are great places to develop friendships and grow in your faith.

However, just because someone at school isn't a Christian doesn't mean you shouldn't associate with them. You can show them the love of Christ with your words and actions, and you may not only make a new friend, but you may change their life for eternity!

The Bible tells us to be in the world, not of it. Even though we're around worldly things and people, we don't belong to the world and shouldn't be influenced by it. We should stay firmly rooted in Jesus and let our lights shine for those who are in darkness. How's YOUR light shining at school?!

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. I'm also blessed with the opportunity to be a contributing writer to http://www.CalicintoRanch.com, http://www.OpenDoorMission.org, Full Spirit Magazine and http://www.JournEzine.com - wonderful ministries that reach others for Christ!

The Purpose Of Life

THE PURPOSE OF LIFE
By ANNE MANNING

God created mankind primarily because He desired to have a family. In order to truly fellowship with God, man had to have freedom of choice. Unfortunately, man used his freedom to rebel against God and fell from fellowship with God.

When man fell he came under the dominion of the devil, because he followed the devil's suggestion to disobey God. With this came spiritual death and a new nature which was selfish. Man became self-centered -- actually worshiping himself by making every decision based on what was best for him. The result of this selfishness is evident all around us: horrible misery and suffering.

God is just and obeys His own laws. Justice requires that rebellion be punished. To be just, yet allow mankind to come back into fellowship with Him, God Himself came to earth as the man Jesus Christ. He suffered a horrible death as the substitute for all mankind, taking the punishment we deserved for our sins. Because of what Jesus did, God could justly forgive all sin, and open a way for all people to come back into fellowship with God.

Jesus Christ was born, died and rose again for one purpose only; to show mankind the way back to a relationship with God. Anyone who believes this can enjoy the benefits of His sacrifice, which sets us free from sin and God's final judgment.

Our life on earth now is testing and preparation for eternity, to prepare us to be in God's family. This is not determined by human beauty or achievement, but by our
willingness to acknowledge that we are sinners and accept the death of Jesus as punishment for our sin. This needs to be followed by a submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ. When we submit to Jesus, He begins changing us into what He wants us to be.

When you come to Jesus, He changes you inwardly. As you continue following Jesus and obeying His Word, your inward change will continue manifesting outwardly, causing people and circumstances around you to change also. God will continue working in and through you until you become like Jesus Christ in your thoughts, words and actions, as well as your nature. The Bible says that God sent Jesus so that He can have many sons just like Him.

This is the purpose for all mankind, but becomes effective only in those who accept and believe it. It is then that we find our true purpose on earth.

The Eternal Summer

The Eternal Summer
By Sherrie Coronas

The sound of the small rubber wheels racing down the cool asphalt penetrated my unconsciousness like thunder on a clear day. I turned over slowly without opening my eyes denying that morning had already arrived. When chatter filled the air just outside my bedroom window, I realized my internal alarm clock had failed me yet again. Throwing my sheets to the floor, I enthusiastically scrambled out of bed the way teenagers do only when on break from school.

In the blink of an eye I was outside lacing up my roller skates, regretting that I had missed nearly fifteen minutes of riveting neighborhood gossip. I rolled myself into the bunch and quickly joined in the twaddle. When the sun was high in the Hawaiian sky, we changed into swim suits and hit the beach. I spread my towel onto the hot sand and coconut oil onto my fair skin. I relished every second of my summer freedom.

As the sun disappeared behind the horizon, I headed home to find mom annoyed that I was late for dinner. A quick apology got me off the hook as I sat down to enjoy her famous beef stew.

"So, just one more week and it's back to school," said mom with inappropriate cheer.

"Yep," I said as I thought about all the fun I would pack into my final days of summer.

"Well, I got a call from Aunty Geri today and she's invited you to join your cousins at church camp this weekend -- would you like to go?" she asked.

I stared blankly for a moment. Did she have any idea what she was asking me to give up? With my eyes fixed squarely on mom, I simply said "yes" because I knew the question was nothing more than rhetorical.

On Friday I packed my duffle bag and headed to Camp Timberline for a Christian summer camp for teens. Although I felt absolutely robbed of my last three days of summer bliss, I put on a game face and decided to make the best of it.

Camp Timberline offered rustic cabins, super cool youth leaders and teens that were surprisingly fun to hang out with it. On the first day, we swam in the pool and played dodge ball. Pastor Art conducted service shortly after dinner.

On the second day of camp, it started to get a bit uncomfortable. A church-going Catholic, I knew I loved God; however, at this camp we talked about having a daily relationship with Him, living our lives for Him and making a personal decision to accept Jesus Christ into our hearts.

Guilt pangs caught me by surprise as I comprehended the shallowness of my life. I knew that I didn't think much about God between Sunday services, unless a teen crisis propelled me into an impromptu prayer request. My "good works" really didn't extend beyond...well, myself.

By the end of day two, the fun-loving camp leaders by day turned into compelling preachers by night with probing questions that boggled my young mind:

Q: When was the last time you thanked God for the goodness in your life?

A: I think it was last Christmas.

Q: When was the last time you shared your love for Jesus with a friend?

A: That would be never.

Q: Did you know that you are a sinner by nature?

A: Now that explained a lot!

Q: If you died tomorrow, are you certain you would go to heaven?

A: What kind of question was that?

It was getting heavy, for sure.

On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Art appeared as a mere shadow against the backdrop of a glorious sunset during our final service. At the end of his message, he looked into the sea of teenage faces and asked, "Are ready to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life? Are you ready to live His plan for your life?"

I stared blankly for a moment. Did he have any idea what he was asking me to give up? With my heart fixed squarely on Jesus, I simply said "yes" knowing that the question was anything but rhetorical.

I opened my heart to the Lord and invited Him to dwell inside of me. Since that day 35 years ago, I've relished every second of that eternal summer decision.

12 Compelling Evidences that the Bible is True By: Windmill Ministries

12 Compelling Evidences that the Bible is True

By: Windmill Ministries

Is the Bible true? Can we trust the texts we read today? Does archaeology confirm the Bible stories? Much as been written about the evidences for historical reliability of the Bible and/or to prove that it cannot be trusted. To help you find a path through the labyrinth of information, following an overview of the 12 most compelling evidences for the historical reliability and truthfulness of the Christian Holy Scriptures:

1. The Dead Sea Scrolls: These contain Old Testament manuscripts from 100 years before the birth of Christ, proving that over the centuries the scriptures were very carefully copied and our current texts are close to identical to the original texts.

2. The Septuagint: The first translation from the Hebrew Old Testament to the Greek language, dated from the 285-270 BC timeframe. The Septuagint proves the existence of all the Old books before 300 BC.

3. The canon of the Old Testament: The list of books that now makes up our Old Testament was never under serious dispute, showing these books were accepted, and treated as God’s word almost immediately after they were written.

4. Authorship and dating of the Old Testament: Although most of the Old Testament books are technically anonymous, we have strong internal and external evidences to support the traditional authorship and date of writing for these books.

5. The manuscripts of the New Testament: The abundance (over 25,000 partial and complete texts) and early dating (the earliest papyrus is from 125 AD) of preserved manuscripts of the New Testament shows the reliable preservation of the original texts.

6. Testimony of the Early Church leaders: Additionally there exist over 86,000 quotations from the New Testament texts in the preserved writings of the leaders of the Early Christian church, testifying to the original texts.

7. The canon of the New Testament: The official canon of the New Testament was agreed upon by 397 AD, however, before the year 150 AD, all gospels, Acts and Paul’s epistles were universally accepted as part of the list of Inspired writings. The disagreements in the 3rd and 4th century only centered around a few of the smaller New Testament books: James, 2 Peter, 2&3 John, Jude and Revelation.

8. Authorship and dating of the Gospels: Although technically anonymous, there are strong internal and external evidences that support the authorship of the gospels by the names we identify them by today. Mark is generally considered to be the oldest gospel; even liberal scholars will agree on a dating before 70 AD, although more realistic is in the 55-65 time frame. Luke, Mark and Acts are generally dated in the 60-80 timeframe. The gospel of John is now universally accepted to be written in the 80-90 period.

9. Authorship and dating of Paul’s letters: All substantial letters are universally accepted to be written by the apostle Paul in the 49-65 AD timeframe. That makes these letters likely the earliest written documents in the New Testament.

10. The ‘lost’ books of the Bible were never ‘lost’: Modern liberal scholars claim recently discovered ‘lost’ or ‘deliberately misplaced’ gospels that claim alternative views on Jesus and His teachings. Famous examples are the ‘gospel of Thomas’, the ‘gospel of Judas’ and the ‘gospel of Mary Magdalene’ (one of the ‘sources’ for the claims of the Da Vinci code). However evidence shows that these gospels were not only written generations after the apostles, but also that the preserved texts were subject to ‘creative editing’ (rewriting) by Gnostic heretic sources.

11. The historical reliability of the Bible: Archeology and historical analysis again and again show the accuracy of the events, locations and customs mentioned in the Bible accounts. Never has anybody been able to disprove any of the accounts.

12. The credibility of the eye-witnesses: The eye-witness accounts to Jesus prove to be honest and factual testimonies. The abundance of (irrelevant) detail, consistency of the accounts, as well as between the different gospels, lack of exaggeration and confirmations from extra-Biblical sources prove their credibility.

Do You Truly Know God's Plan for You? Our Christian Gift of Prosperity By: Steven E Coffman

Do You Truly Know God's Plan for You? Our Christian Gift of Prosperity

By: Steven E Coffman

What are you doing to bring your life's dreams to pass? Do you truly have a clear direction? Do you wake up every morning expecting favor and blessings on everything you do? Do you only plan for what is good? Are you taking the necessary steps to build a strong belief of faith for your success? Maybe you want to start a business, or ministry, or even go back to school. Whatever is in your heart, ask the Lord to confirm it to you. God leads us by desires, but we have to first submit our desires to God for Him to be able to act on them.

Proverbs 16:9 (NRSV) says, "The human mind of plans the way, but the LORD directs the steps."

What do you expect as you go throughout your day? When you only plan for what is good, you will find God in the midst of your plans. Remember that God's plan for you is the best plan for your life. If you will do your part to seek Him and begin to make plans to succeed, God will guide you. He will direct your steps. You do not have to vaguely go through life anymore. God truly wants to show you His plan.

Sometimes we let our past victories keep us from rising higher as much as past failures. If we never let go of the old, we will never be able to embrace the new. It truly does not matter what has happened in your history, now time to forget what lies behind you.

Do not ever let yourself get stuck into negative thinking, "I will never change that's just the way I am." Our Christian Bible tells us that when we align with the Spirit of God, He aids us in our weakness and gives us strength by telling us many times in the Christian Bible "Doubt not" and "Fear not." Knowing this, you need to make the firm choice to truly believe and not fear, then press forward. Trust that God has a better future in store for you. Trust that He is truly working behind the scenes on your behalf.

God wants to truly pour out His blessings on you and allow you to live a life of victory! This is our Christian gift of prosperity that He offers you. Decide today to make your plans and truly believe that they will come to pass to succeed. Make time to evaluate where you are in life. Evaluate your finances, your career, and your relationships, and also evaluate how you're spending your time.

Do not go another week without having a plan for your future and truly believing in it. Write down all your goals and submit them to God for His blessings. If you will go beyond just dreaming, and start making these plans to truly succeed, God promises He is going to direct your steps. He will lead you down the path of His favor. He will lead you into increase; He will lead you into promotion. You will not only see your dreams come true, but you also will walk in success in every area of your life!

"Jesus looked at them and said," "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." Mark 10:27 (NKJV).

God created you in His image to reflect His glory. He created you to reflect His character, and His righteousness. If you start truly believing in your plan, you will also truly begin to align with God's plan for you, then you will start move forward into the life of victory the Lord has in store for you!

Remember, Proverbs 14:22 (NLT) tells us; "if you plan good, you will be granted unfailing love and faithfulness."

Why not start your plans today, so that you can receive all of God's favor and Our Christian gift of prosperity!

Why Satan Doesn't Want You To Study The Bible - Andy Deane

Why Satan Doesn't Want You To Study The Bible

By: Andy Deane

I’m convinced one of Satan’s most successful schemes against God’s people is in blinding us to the importance and relevance of spending time studying the Scriptures. God’s Word is invaluable. It is a far greater treasure than anything this world has to offer yet many treat it as though it has no worth. Instead of investing time studying the Bible, it is left unopened and gathering dust. Whether it is because of busyness, complacency, or just a lack of awareness, believers miss out on the benefit of growing in their relationship with the Lord when they do not cherish and abide in, His Word.

Satan’s primary objective is to prevent Christians from appropriating all that is rightfully ours as God’s children. He wants us to live spiritually bankrupt and destitute lives and one of the ways in which he goes about accomplishing that is by keeping us from studying God’s Word. It is simple really: If we don’t know who we are or who our God is, then we will miss out on what He wants to do in and through our lives. God has given us a surpassing treasure according to the riches of His glory—we have every spiritual blessing in Christ. But unless we are grounded in biblical truth, we are destined to be ineffective for the gospel in this world. However, when we make time to study the Bible our lives are enriched and established upon the sure foundation of His Word.

What treasure does the Word of God have to offer you? Let me give you a description of the riches that God has for those who study the Bible. I've heard Psalm 19:7-10 paraphrased like this, "The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes. God's reputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree. God's Word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. You'll like it better than strawberries in spring, better than red, ripe strawberries." We have to develop the same heart of the psalmist who says in Psalm 119:162, “I rejoice at Your Word as one who finds great treasure.”

Let me share with you eight benefits of studying the Bible:
1. It assures you of your salvation (1 John 5:13)
2. It guides you with your decisions (Psalm 119:105)
3. It gives you confidence in prayer (John 15:7)
4. It cleanses you from sin (John 15:3 / John 17:17)
5. It brings joy (John 15:11)
6. It gives you peace (John 16:33)
7. It makes you strong (1 John 2:14)
8. It leads to success (Joshua 1:8)

The Bible answers life’s biggest questions.
In addition to getting to know the God who created us, studying the Bible also helps us to learn about ourselves, and the world in which we live. Answers to all of life’s biggest questions are found in God’s Word. Such as:
• Who am I?
• Why am I here?
• Where did I come from?
• Where am I going?
• What should I do with my life?
• What is my relationship to God?

The Bible answers all of these questions and so much more: it is our Creator’s revelation to us. When we understand this, we will begin to rightly esteem its value and importance in our daily lives. We will also view the time we spend in God’s Word as the most vital part of our days and guard that time from being disturbed by the constant stream of distractions that make up our modern lives. Ringing cell phones and never-ending emails are always clamoring for our immediate attention, but as we discipline ourselves to set time aside to study God’s Word we will realize that intrusions such as these will be better handled after we have spent time with the Lord. What are you waiting for? Open your Bibles and find your reward! Are you unsure of how to study the Bible? You can learn forty easy to do Bible study methods by visiting

You Gotta Watch This, Folks.

To Love, Or Not To Love..??

Love is 1 of the most significant elements of our lives.

Because of love, people make sacrifices.

Because of love, people would block a bullet from striking their brother.

Because of love, people struggle in their lives.

Because of love, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross to wash away our sins.

We could have loved many, but should we do so..?

The question here is: When you meet God face-to-face one day, would you rather be told that "you've loved many" or "you've loved less"..?

Please tell us you answer/opinion by dropping a comment or simply text it in our CBox. We'd be glad to hear from you.
